20/365 - “Set Me Free” - A psychedelic, House collaboration between DJ Lilt (A.K.A. Riky Saunders) and I. After checking out my project, DJ Lilt approached me asking to collab. Since the one club song I wrote/recorded was an EPIC FAIL (See: BumpBumpBump) - I jumped right on board in hopes that I would learn a bit…which I did! It took me a while to get into the mindset of a House song. I’m so used to the basic setup of a song: intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. I realized that I had to stop thinking about what it “should” sound like and just let it be. As soon as I relaxed and allowed myself to just listen and improv, the whole piece fell together. I wasn’t second guessing myself and the build in the middle of the song came from out of nowhere. Which, let me tell you, is an exciting thing to be able to say as a songwriter because that means you’re able to rely on your creative instincts alone. Note: LISTENING TO THIS WITH HEADPHONES IS A MUST!
